This has been the most difficult week of our family’s life. One week ago, we lost my father-in-law after several weeks in the hospital and a week at home on hospice care. During this time, we had several people bless us with meals and other acts of caring. I posted these on Facebook with captions of “today, love was….” Since these are mostly food-related, it seemed appropriate to share them here, in memory of our Dad.
Love was dinner brought to the IMCU waiting room by a local church Love was brownies from my coworkers on my birthday Love was homemade Indian food brought to our house by church friends Love was steak and sweet potato cooked by my husband the night before my wrist surgery Love was Chinese food delivered to our family by the dining room manager at the in-laws’ assisted living facility Love was a home-cooked meal cut into bite-sized pieces by my aunt-in-law as I recovered from my surgery Love was homemade brownies delivered with a hug during visitation Love was a neighbor who rolled our trash can down the hill and back up on the day of the funeral Love was homemade lasagna delivered by church friends (including their triplets) the night after the burial Love was my mother-in-law taking us out for barbeque on my husband’s birthday Love was my husband holding his father’s hand in the hospital after he received his diagnosis
